Unfinished building collapse in Accra leaves three dead, highlighting a recurring structural safety crisis

A three-storey unfinished building collapsed in Accra’s New Town area, resulting in three fatalities and multiple injuries. The structure, originally part of a school project, was being used for a church service at the time of the incident. According to authorities, approximately 23 individuals were inside the building when it failed, with 20 rescued and taken to hospital.

Emergency services carried out search and rescue operations, continuing efforts overnight under floodlights. Officials later indicated that no additional victims were believed to be trapped beneath the debris. Reports noted that the collapse occurred following heavy rainfall, although the exact cause remains under investigation.
