Structural instability leads to roof collapse at Grafton construction site

A partial roof collapse at a construction site in the Town of Grafton resulted in injuries to three workers. The incident occurred while teams were securing wooden roof trusses on a storage condominium unit measuring approximately 60 by 60 feet. The north wall bowed during this operation, causing the trusses to fail and the workers to fall about 16 feet. One individual became trapped under debris, requiring on-site extrication.

Local emergency crews responded immediately, cutting through the damaged trusses to free the trapped worker and transporting all three injured individuals to a nearby hospital. The injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. The construction site was secured to allow building inspectors and regulatory authorities to begin their evaluation. Representatives from safety agencies initiated a formal review to determine the contributing factors behind the wall movement and roof failure.

The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Inspectors are examining the stability of the partially constructed structure, the placement and bracing of trusses, and any potential load transfer issues that may have contributed to the wall deformation. Multiple regional agencies supported the response, highlighting the coordinated approach required when managing structural failures at active construction sites.
