A building collapse occurred on the evening of September 12, 2025, at No. 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos. The structure, reported as a three- to four-storey building under construction, gave way at approximately 8:00 p.m., trapping several individuals beneath the rubble. Emergency services arrived promptly on site to begin coordinated rescue efforts.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that four people were rescued alive, while three fatalities were recorded. Additional reports indicated that eight construction workers were initially rescued and treated for injuries, while ongoing search and rescue operations continued into subsequent days. Emergency responders at the site included NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency, police, and other relevant agencies. Their combined efforts focused on stabilizing the site, retrieving trapped individuals, and ensuring public safety.
Authorities emphasized that search and rescue activities remained active until the site was declared clear. The collapse has drawn attention to ongoing safety concerns surrounding building construction practices in Nigeria and reinforced the importance of strict regulatory compliance in densely populated urban areas.
