In Cadier en Keer, near Maastricht, a mobile crane toppled onto the roof of a youth care institution before 09:30 on the morning of the incident, severely damaging the building’s roof structure. The crane operator was unharmed, and initial reports confirm that no other injuries were sustained.
According to spokespersons from the Veiligheidsregio Zuid-Limburg, the crane became unstable as it attempted to lift another work vehicle over the building. The machine tilted and part of its boom or structure came down onto the roof. In response, the building was evacuated and occupants were relocated to nearby alternate facilities by emergency services.
Fire-and-rescue units and police remain on site as they assess the crane’s stability and coordinate subsequent recovery operations. A technical investigation into the cause, including ground/stabilization conditions, crane rigging, and lift plan, is expected to follow.
