On June 24, 2025, a portion of the ceiling in the arrivals area of Palma de Mallorca’s Son Sant Joan Airport gave way, causing glass and construction debris to fall onto the floor. The collapse occurred near a baggage claim entrance, leading to the activation of emergency alarms and evacuation of passengers to other zones.
Eyewitness accounts report a loud noise followed by a cloud of dust that reduced visibility across the area. While no injuries were recorded, the falling debris landed near vending areas.

Initial assessments from the Spanish airport authority AENA suggest the cause was linked to ongoing renovation works. Debris from these works appears to have accumulated above a glass roof section, eventually compromising its integrity.
Given that Palma Airport is among Spain’s busiest, serving over 33 million passengers annually, authorities have confirmed that a full investigation is underway to evaluate liabilities and establish corrective measures.
