Update: On January the 19th, the developers announced a revised height of 1,907 feet for the planned skyscraper, which would make it the nation's tallest building if constructed. 1907 was chosen to symbolize the year that Oklahoma became a state.
Shortly after Oklahoma City’s NBA franchise gained approval for the construction of a new arena, renderings were revealed for the proposed development of a 134-story skyscraper just a block away, which would make it the nation’s second tallest.
Furthermore, the tower is part of the broader Boardwalk at Bricktown development, which is planned to encompass more than 3 acres as well as over 2 million square feet of mixed-use floor space.
The project is currently split into two phases, with the first one expected to go into construction as early as next year and cost approximately $700 million. This first phase will consist of a 22-story 480-key Hyatt Dream hotel and two 23-story apartment buildings, as well as parking spaces.
The second phase would include the 1,750-foot 134-story skyscraper, which, if realized, is going to be the nation’s second tallest building, only surpassed by New York’s One World Trade Center.
However, Kenton Tsoodle, CEO and president of the Alliance for Economic Development of Oklahoma City stated that construction of the tower will only go ahead if the market is there.
Mr. Tsoodle also said that a $200 million tax increment financing help will be provided to the project if its construction goes ahead.
It is finally worth mentioning that Oklahoma’s tallest building at this moment is the Devon Energy Center, standing 844-feet tall.
