Four people were injured after a building explosion in Atlanta, United States.
The explosion occurred on September 12, 2021, in suburban Atlanta. The 3-story building which was affected, partially collapsed. Neighboring buildings also suffered some damage due to the blast. The four people that were impacted suffered non-life threatening injuries. The building and the nearby structures were evacuated.
Rescue teams rushed to the apartment building which was later stabilized. Drones and a helicopter were employed to search the surrounding region. The teams searched for potential victims trapped under the rubble but fortunately, no one was found. “We are attempting to look for those two unaccounted for people. Those people may not have been here when the explosion happened,” Captain Jaeson Daniels, stated. The local Red Cross supported the residents that needed to find accommodation for the next few days.
The impact of the blast was also felt by people away from the apartment building. "I felt and heard a loud thud around 1:30 or so. I thought my neighbor dropped a large item like a piece of furniture," a resident living 400 meters away, said.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown and an investigation on the case has opened. Nonetheless, a manager reported noticing a smell of gas in the building before the incident.
