The contract for the construction of a $4.7 billion artificial lake, part of Saudi Arabia’s Neom project, was recently signed.
Furthermore, the 2.8 km long lake is going to be formed by three new dams, while it is going to be part of Neom’s Trojena mountain ski resort.
In addition to the three dams, the contract includes the construction of another structure called “The Bow”. This structure is going to enable the extension of the waterfront beyond the main dam, while also housing large adaptable spaces.
As for the three dams, the main one is going to be 145 meters high and 475 meters long, while it is going to be made of 2.7 million m³ of roller-compacted concrete (RCC), the same material that is going to be used for the second dam.
The third dam is going to be in rock and feature a volume of 4.3 million m³.
The resulting artificial lake is planned to have an area of 1.5 km², as well as featuring an island reserved for botanical dives and walks.
So far, there have been about 3 million m³ of rock excavated on the site, currently continuing at a pace of 90,000 m³ per week.
It has been stated that the excavated rock is going to be reused in the lakebed’s lining and the rock dam’s construction.
Finally, an estimated 10,000 direct and third-party jobs are expected to be created by the project.
