Indian Railways’ network in the state of Odisha has been 100% electrified.
The Odisha broad gauge railway network is a 2,822km route and its electrification falls under Indian Railways’ plan to meet net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
Completion of this project is estimated to reduce line haul costs by about 2.5 times and increase haulage capacity.
In addition to these, the line’s electrification will also result in reduced crude oil reliance and lower, more environmentally friendly, operating and maintenance costs.
It is worth noting that Odisha is the country’s third state with a completely electrified broad gauge rail network so far, and how Indian Railways have been billed as one of the most significant economic sectors to boost India’s efforts of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
