Bakey’s edible cutlery was founded in India in 2010 by Narayana Peesapathy. The cutlery is made of millet, rice and wheat and comes in different flavors – savoury (onion & tomato, garlic, ginger etc), sweet and plain. And even if you do not choose to eat them, they will decompose in 4-5 days after being thrown away. They contain no conservatives and they have a shelf life of 3 years. For those interested to order, custom made sizes and shapes can also be created, as well as additional flavors and colors using vegetable pulp.
Their price is still not very competitive, but Peesapathy believes that once the volume increases, prices will converge with those of their plastic counterparts.
