A very effective way to spread his message about endless waste pollution
Through his work, the Portuguese street artist Artur Bordalo, aka Bordallo II, wants to turn the public’s attention to the environmental problem caused by irrational waste generation. Using trash such as scrap wood, car bumpers, door panels, old electric appliances, computer parts, old tires or even entire vehicles, he creates impressive wild animal sculptures. His technique is sticking rubbish to a wall as a collage, and spraying paint to complete the piece.
He seeks to portray nature and animals using only the materials that threaten them. “The idea is to depict nature itself, in this case animals, out of materials that are responsible for [their] destruction,” he says. In this way he hopes to make environmental destruction more visible. “Sometimes people don’t recognize that their simple routines are too much, we are using too many resources too fast and turning them into trash, waste, and pollution.”
