Lightning strike causes explosion in Oxfordshire recycling plant

A lightning strike caused an explosion at a food waste recycling plant, which lit up Oxfordshire’s night sky on the evening of Monday, October 2.

Furthermore, the event took place at the Cassington AD recycling facility near Yarnton, at about 7:20 pm, after lightning struck a digester tank containing biogas, causing it to explode.

Shortly after the explosion, 40 fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the scene along with six fire engines, an aerial appliance, and a water tanker.

Nearby, the A40 trunk road was closed until 11 pm between Wolvercote and Eynsham, while the plant’s staff and emergency services were trying to secure the site.

Several photographs and videos from the incident emerged, while it is worth mentioning that nobody was injured.
