Authorities in Tennessee have confirmed that no survivors were found following a powerful explosion at the Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) plant near Bucksnort, about an hour southwest of Nashville. The blast occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Friday, completely destroying one of the plant’s main buildings and scattering debris across the surrounding area.

Emergency responders and investigators have spent several days searching through the wreckage. Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said more than 300 personnel have examined nearly every part of the site, with recovery operations focused on identifying human remains. The sheriff described the destruction as “more devastating than initially believed.” Officials have yet to confirm the exact number of victims, though 18 employees were reported missing immediately after the incident.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the FBI, and state emergency agencies assisting on site. Authorities have not ruled out foul play but cautioned that determining the cause could take weeks or months.
The AES plant, which manufactures ammunition and explosives for commercial and defense use, has experienced previous incidents. In 2014, an explosion at the same facility killed one worker and injured four others. Court records also revealed a 2020 fire and an inspection related to employee chemical exposure. The latest event has renewed scrutiny of safety protocols in the handling and testing of explosive materials.
A family assistance center has been established by the company and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to support relatives of the victims. Officials have advised residents to report any debris potentially linked to the blast and to avoid the area until it is declared safe.
