A temporary elevator, used on a construction site in Stockholm, failed on Monday, December 11, causing the loss of five workers’ lives.
Furthermore, the incident took place on a site located in Sundbyberg, a northern suburb of the Swedish capital.
What has been made known so far is that the lift, carrying the five construction workers, plummeted to the ground from a height of 20 meters.
The reasons behind the accident are still unclear, while the senior prosecutor in charge, Gunnar Jonasson, stated that a preliminary investigation on the event is currently ongoing, on the suspicion of “work environment violations causing the death of another”.
Finally, work on the site has been halted, and a spokesperson for the lift manufacturer stated on the Aftonbladet tabloid that this type of elevator has been used globally for more than twenty years, while the company has not been involved in such accidents before.
