Plans for the tallest skyscraper in Greece

A new building near the city of Athens will become the tallest building in Greece and in the Mediterranean.

The skyscraper, named Marina Tower, will be constructed in Hellinikon in the Athens Riviera. The area used to be Athens' former International Airport and is currently being re-developed. 

The structure that is designed by Foster & Partners for Lamda Development, will reach a height of 200 meters and will feature 200 apartments within 45 floors. In fact, it will comprise two facilities that will be connected via multiple structural systems and will feature swimming pools (among others). The key design features will be simple so that the building will harmonically adapt to the surrounding seaside environment. 

The tower will be about twice the height of the current tallest building in Greece, Athens Tower, located near the center of the city. Mr. O. Athanassiou, CEO of Lamda Development, stated that it will provide an exceptional view of the sea and of Athens' mountains. Moreover, the structure will feature a green and sustainable design so it can be eco-friendly.

The skyscraper will be externally covered with plants to represent the characteristics of the Mediterranean landscape. “Our proposal for the Marina Tower is based on basic principles of sustainable design, creating a new development model and a new green landmark for the country,” Antoinette Nassopoulos-Erickson, head of the architecture team and senior partner and design team leader at Foster & Partners, stated.

Plans suggest that the project could be completed within the next 5 years.
