A truck with flammable material collided on a highway overpass causing a fatal explosion on Monday, 6 August.
The accident occurred near the city of Bologna in north Italy. 2 people were killed and about 70 were reported injured. Some suffered from severe burns while others were hit by glass as windows shattered in nearby buildings. According to Italian TV channel Sky TG24, the flames reached a lower level and triggered secondary explosion in a parking lot below. News agency ANSA stated that the explosive material was liquefied petroleum gas while officials have not declared a formal report yet.
It took 3 hours for the firefighters to extinguish the fire and enable the necessary operations after the explosion. Due to the accident, a major highway, which connects Italy with the Adriatic coast, had been closed north of the city of Bologna
