Freight train derailed in Massachusetts, U.S.A.
A freight train was derailed in Ayer, Massachusetts, on Thursday, March 23.
More specifically, the derailment involved at least five of the train’s cars, which were reportedly carrying 10 containers filled with trash and recycling materials, while another two cars were found leaning.
According to Carl Berkowitz, railway safety expert, the reason for frequent train derailments occurring is track neglection.
He said that a lot of money has been spent on positive train control and “That only deals with trains not hitting each other. It controls the speed of the trains on the track”. He finally noted that not enough funds have been dedicated to upgrading the infrastructure.
It is worth mentioning that another derailment of a freight train, carrying non-hazardous limestone slurry, took place in Maine earlier this week.
