Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has started construction to redevelop Waterbury Train Station, initiating a broader program to upgrade all six stations along the 28.5-mile Waterbury Branch of Metro-North’s New Haven Line.
According to CTDOT, the project includes conversion of the southern portion of the Republican-American building into an indoor waiting room with amenities for passengers, and replacement of the existing platform with a high-level, accessible platform.
The design features in the final plans include track realignment to reduce the gap between trains and platforms, security cameras, and emergency “blue light” phones.
As work progresses, CTDOT plans to maintain service via substitute bus service during periods when train operations must be halted for platform replacement.
