The iconic Chrysler building, located in Manhattan, New York, is up for sale.
Back in 2008, the art-deco skyscraper was purchased by Abu Dhabi Investment Council for $800 million. Now, the owners have assigned the selling of the building to real-estate services and investment firm CBRE which declined to publish the asking price.
Chrysler Building was built in 1930 and it was the first skyscraper that reached a height of more than 1000 feet surpassing the Eiffel Tower and becoming the tallest structure in the world. It is still considered one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in New York. In 1976, it was declared a National Historic Landmark and a New York City Landmark in 1978.
The structure was designed by William Van Alen, a leading representative of Art Deco architecture. The total cost of the construction was $20,000,000 while 29,961 tons of steel, about 3,826,000 bricks and 5,000 windows were used. Among its features, the building's crown consists of Nirosta steel and triangular windows.
Despite its historic importance, the building faces some issues that could prevent an investor from purchasing it. It lacks of light and effective working spaces that a company would need and the cost of a renovation is high. Moreover, such buildings are designed to have closed doors and offices, a tendency that it is different from current perception of ''transparent workplace'' that erases hierarchy and secrecy.
