Arkyne Technologies, a Barcelona-based start-up, is aiming to turn the renewable energy industry upside down, by inventing Bioo, an innovative pot that produces electricity from plants’ photosynthesis. Neither the technology nor the process applied harms the plant in any way. The pot allows 2 to 3 charges per day, has a H2O purification system and is watertight and sealed. It also has a night and day electrical production, and innovators guarantee it will function properly for at least 5 years. Their target is to simply transform green spaces to fulfill our energy needs with the creation of a new renewable source and to prove how efficient it can really be. They have already exceeded their crowdfunding goal, so they expect to hit the market in the following months.
How does it work
The ‘magic’ takes place inside the plant pot where a special system, that includes a chemical and biological hybrid cell, is used. It takes advantage of the energy produced in the soil surrounding the roots by the plant´s biological elements expelled after photosynthesis, transferring it as electrical current to the output.
