The Disney Solar Farm in Florida (5MW)

Currently under construction by Duke Energy Florida near the Walt Disney World Resort, this solar farm occupies 20 acres of land with around 48,000 solar panels, all perfectly arranged into the iconic mouse shape. It is expected to be switched on this spring, and it will provide energy to Walt Disney World and the nearby Reedy Creek Improvement District.

Heart of the New Caledonia (2 MW)

This beautiful solar farm is being built by the solar company Conerg, across a 4-acre site on Grand Terre, New Caledonia’s largest island. The installation will consist of 7,888 panels (its capacity will cover the needs of 750 homes) and the design is inspired by the “Coeur de Voh”, or “Heart of Voh”, an area of nearby wild mangrove vegetation that has naturally taken the shape of a heart. Unfortunately, there is no update on the time of its first operation.

The Topaz Solar Farm (550 MW)

From above, it looks like the graphics of a retro video game (Tetris does come to mind), but Topaz Solar Farm in California is one of the largest photovoltaic power plants in the world. Actually, it was the world’s largest solar farm in 2014, until superseded by Solar Star (579 MW) in 2015.

It consists of 9 million cadmium telluride solar modules, occupying an area of over 5.6 km². Switched on in November 2014, the plant can produce enough electricity to power around 180,000 homes when operating at full capacity (that's about enough to displace approximately 407,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year - the equivalent of taking 77,000 cars off the road).
