New Delhi’s prototype air purification towers

New Delhi’s prototype air purification tower has been put to test since last summer in Sunder Nursery Park.

Furthermore, the structure’s form is comprised of triangular elements, which rotate as they rise to its 5.5-meter total height.

Within this shell structure there are five filtration devices stacked. These devices are capable of filtering fine particles and nitrogen dioxide within a radius of 100 to 350 meters in open spaces and 200 to 500 in enclosed ones.

It is worth noting that air pollution is a serious problem in India and caused 1.6 million deaths in 2019 alone. Moreover, last year New Delhi was named the city with the highest fine particle matter exposure in the world by the Health Effects Institute.

The tower’s creators gave an estimate that 100 devices would be needed to filter the city’s central area.

Finally, a purification tower uses as much energy as an industrial vacuum cleaner, while producing 75 dBs of noise at maximum.
