The completion of the 330 m tall Mori JP tower was recently announced by its designers, making the structure Japan’s new tallest skyscraper.
Mori JP tower is part of a broader redevelopment project located in Tokyo and called Azabudai Hills District.
The Azabudai Hills District is an 8.1-hectare area, which has been designed as a mixed-use modern urban village. More specifically, it consists of three high-rise towers, green spaces, office and residential spaces, retail and restaurants, as well as cultural spaces and an international school.
It is also worth noting that roughly a third of the developed area is dedicated to green space.
Mori JP is the tallest of the three towers, housing office and restaurant spaces in the greater part of its 64 stories, while the top 11 floors are dedicated to apartment spaces.
As for the two adjacent smaller towers, they are called Residence A and Residence B, offering 320 and 970 residential units respectively.
Mori JP Tower’s 330 m height makes it the 134th tallest in the world, while it actually stands behind Japan’s 634 m Tokyo Skytree and 332.9 m Tokyo Tower. However, the latter two are observation and broadcasting structures, making them ineligible for listing in height rankings, as they are not at least 50% occupiable.
Due to the high seismicity of Tokyo, the tower has been designed to withstand up to 9 moment magnitude earthquakes, by utilizing high-strength steel and concrete, as well as active mass dampers.
Finally, the Azabudai Hills have received a LEED Platinum certification, as it is 100% powered by renewables, in addition to utilizing rainwater storage and re-use, and reclaimed sewage heating systems.
