Kartik Ram, the inventor of the Zeitgeist electric bike which debuted this spring, is now launching the Doohan EV3 iTank, a three-wheeled electric scooter that he claims to be the future. It is designed to cruise throughout neighborhoods, and can also serve as transportation in areas where people wouldn’t necessarily want to walk neither could take their car, such as golf courses and marinas. “Cars are getting smarter and smaller. In general, the sharing economy requires you to think about smaller form factors that are personal for you. But two wheels aren’t right; I can’t tell my mom, who’s in her 70s, to ride a scooter. And four wheels signal cars or golf carts; it seems heavy”, says Ram.

Its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter was successfully completed in early September, and the first deliveries are estimated to begin in October. It is also available for purchase on Amazon, at a price of $5,600. It is not cheap, but still less costly than its competitor Piaggio MP3 sport, which costs $9,000. The Doohan EV3 iTank comes in a lot of appealing colors including read, white, black, orange, yellow, green and camouflage.

Technical characteristics

This urban 3-wheel cross-over is equipped with a German-made Bosch motor for powerful climbing (it can climb at a 15-degree incline without losing power) and can reach 0-28 mph in 4.6 seconds (the top speed is limited). Its removable lithium-ion batteries have an official range of 62 miles and charge in 6 hours. The Doohan EV3 iTank, which according to its inventor is insanely fun to ride, also has a 50:50 weight balance and a low center of gravity.
