The Lake Polyfytos Bridge, in Greece, has been closed due to structural damage.
More specifically, cracks and structural damage were spotted on the bridge, which was deemed unsafe by officials on March 16.
The bridge’s construction started in 1972 and was completed in 1975.
Lake Polyfytos Bridge, or Servia High Bridge, is one of the longest bridges in Greece, with a length of 1,372m.
Safety concerns about the bridge’s structural integrity were first raised in 2020, when traffic restrictions were enforced.
It was stated by officials that the bridge has not been properly maintained since 1995 and structural rehabilitation measures will be implemented, after engineering inspection has been conducted.
The structural rehabilitation works are estimated to last one to two months, during which the bridge will remain closed.
