The keynote address, delivered by Simon Corben, Head of Profession and Director at NHS Estates and Facilities, NHS England, emphasizes setting high standards in construction projects.
The Environment Agency (EA) will share a case study highlighting practical advantages of using NEC contracts. EA representatives Siu Fa Ng, Nic Stazicker, and Andy Gufogg will discuss strategies for reducing carbon emissions through collaborative frameworks and cultural shifts, emphasizing how the NEC Clause X29 can incentivize emissions reduction.
Trudi Sully, Impact Lead at Mott MacDonald, will update attendees on changes in the industry and the Transforming Infrastructure Performance (TIP) 2030 roadmap. John Welch, NEC Users’ Group Chair, will then present a session on “Defining Levelling Up and Its Socio-Economic Dimension,” exploring how the government can achieve levelling up through infrastructure investments and how to leverage existing infrastructure and collaborative contracts to support public interests.
In the afternoon, a presentation on maximizing social value in infrastructure will tackle regional inequalities, exploring how infrastructure can support community wellbeing, drive positive change, and foster inclusivity.
The 2024 NEC Annual Conference is an undoubtedly important event as it brings together industry leaders and government representatives to discuss how AI can transform construction contracts, leading to more efficient and streamlined project processes. Additionally, the conference highlights crucial topics such as carbon reduction, regional inequalities, and societal impacts, showcasing the vital role of construction in shaping sustainable and inclusive communities.
