Facebook will soon provide an additional $750 million, reaching a total investment of $2 billion in its data center in Prineville, Oregon.
The latest expansion will increase the company's property to 3.2 million square feet. Two additional buildings and a campus, operating 100% by renewable energy, will be constructed. According to latest information, Facebook announced that the existing 5 buildings at Prineville will soon operate by solar energy. While Facebook has not revealed information about the contractor, the project is expected to be completed by 2020.
Oregon State provides beneficial tax breaks and companies like Facebook, Intel and Apple have manipulated this advantage by establishing their data centers there. It is estimated that Facebook has about $20 million tax exemptions, an amount that is going to rise along with the company's expansion.
Nowadays, even if some construction activities have been reduced, data center and generally technological projects are thriving and drive a crucial part of construction activity. Amazon is on the edge of realizing its 2nd North American headquarters, a project with a total investment of approximately $5 billion. Google and Apple are also expanding in Seattle and Arizona, respectively.
Tech companies have a pioneering point of view in every aspect of their facilities. Their construction projects need to reflect their innovative and enterprising strategy. Therefore, construction industry must adapt in order to realize these tasks, making a beneficial step for both sides.
