A beautiful way to produce electricity
An Austrian company came up with a very attractive design for a photovoltaic panel (POP), that of a flower. The Smartflower is a completely portable and elegant photovoltaic system in comparison to those currently in the market. And it is also very efficient, as it generates 40% more electricity per m2 than a conventional rooftop one. Throughout the day, it tracks the sun’s position and by rotating on its two moveable axes, the solar panels are constantly at an optimum angle for capturing the sunlight. Its ‘petals’ unfold automatically in the morning and are pulled in into its base at night or in strong winds for protection. The total surface area of the panels is 18m2, considerably smaller than the average roof; however it can still generate roughly 4,000 kWh per year depending on the area. When fully extended, the flower’s diameter is 4,4 m. It is an easy to install system, which also comes in a variety of colors.
