Shatin to Central Link (SCL) is a major infrastructure investment currently under construction in Hong Kong and aims in connecting a number of existing railway lines passing through different districts of the island. The line passes through already developed urban areas, encountering different topography and geology conditions, which require not only the application of different construction methods, but the use of different types of the same equipment as explained by two of the leading companies in the tunneling construction industry, having undertaken the construction of specific tunnel sections.
The first major combined bridge and tunnel sea-crossing project in China is the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge project. Consisting of three cable-stayed bridges and one 6-km sea crossing tunnel, it will have a total length of 55 km. It will be the world’s longest sea bridge and will link three cities in China's Pearl River Delta — creating one mega-city of 42 million people and slashing travel time between Hong Kong and Chinese city Zhuhai from three hours to just 30 minutes.
Last February, the futuristic Kennedy Town Swimming Pool (KTSP) -located in an historic Hong Kong neighborhood- was completed. The new civil and recreation hub, built beside Victoria Harbour, now serves as an icon for the community, and has helped rejuvenate a neglected district of otherwise vibrant Kennedy Town. Designed by Farrells,KTSP has won a 2017 American Architecture Prize in the Recreational Architecture category.
