Software developed by researchers at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Spain is taking off with large Spanish construction companies. The simulation software, which can be used on the cloud, simulates the effects of design choices and construction scenarios. Users are able to obtain an analysis of the entire building life cycle from creation to deconstruction.
According to data from the NASA-supported National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at the University of Colorado, Boulder, the Arctic ice cap reached its maximum extent, 5.61 million square miles (14.54 million square kilometers), on February 15th. This is the smallest maximum extent on record and also one of the earliest, occurring nearly 15 days earlier than the average datefrom 1981 to 2010 of March 12th. Only once, in 1996, did the peak come earlier - and just by a day, February 14th.
As of April 24th, Costa Rica has generated all of its electricity this year using only renewable resources. In a report released last week, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute believes the energy streak is likely to continue, estimating that Costa Rica will end 2015 having obtained 97% percent of its energy from renewables.
