The environmental group American Rivers, released a list of the top ten rivers in the country facing imminent threats on Tuesday. A portion of the Colorado River, which winds through the Grand Canyon sits at the top of that list. The group sites plans for a major construction project in the canyon, a proposed expansion of groundwater pumping, and a desire to reopen an inactive uranium mine in the area.
UK's Royal Mail has just issued a set of first class stamps depicting the 10 most historical bridges across the country. According to Royal Mail, the series "demonstrates leaps in engineering" performed by progressive architects and engineers.
A recent report links high salinity in Seneca Lake, the largest of New York State’s Finger Lakes, to the storage of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) in nearby salt caverns. The lake, which holds 4.2 trillion gallons of water, has for decades seen levels of salt concentrations greater than those regulated by the state for sensitive populations such as infants and those on low-salt diets. The highest concentration, in the village of Waterloo, has concentrations nearly four times the state limit.
