A 28-year old Dutch has developed machines to recycle plastic, and their blueprints are free online
Dave Hakkens couldn’t help but notice the severe worldwide problem of plastic pollution. So, he came up with the idea of providing people the tools to start working with plastic waste locally, transforming it into useful things. He called his project ‘Precious Plastic’, and it is an attempt to revolutionize plastic recycling.
Hakkens developed a series of machines that can be made using basic tools and low cost materials and can also be customized, so that anyone can set them up. With these machines, recycling seems easy, fun and creative. First, plastic is shredded into small flakes and then, depending on the type of machinery and mold used, these can be turned into little containers or bowls, tops, clocks, lampshades and also functional tools and raw materials.
