The recently and extensively flooded region of Kashmir is still trying to recover from the disaster and starts evaluating the induced damage particularly to its cultural heritage. Some of the most historic sites of the region were severely hurt and journalist Shujaat Bukhari describes the damage to the monuments.
Kashmir has a rich history, however many of its monuments did not manage to survive to this day. After the recent floods, the last monuments of Kashmir have suffered extensive damage. The floods affected among others, the graveyard of royalty, a great part of the colonial heritage of the region, including a Christian cemetery and many houses, Kashmir's museum and its exhibits, as well as many saints' shrines. According to experts approximately 150 buildings were affected by the floods with Salim Beg, a heritage expert, stating that whatever the loss is, is still big.
