An upgrade is about be implemented in Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium and mixed reality is being used to realize it.
Using Bentley's mixed reality construction software, designers have been able to recreate a cloud-based 4D construction simulation (see video) of the stadium. The purpose of the simulation is to aid the designers visualize the procedure of the upgrade ensuring an effective plan from the beginning to the end of the project. The iconic stadium will expand to a capacity of more than 100,000 with the addition of a roof installed inside the €360 million (about $420 million) venue. A new arena designed for 12,000 will also be constructed as part of the project to host the club's basketball, handball, roller hockey and futsal teams. The project will be completed in 2022.
Plans also exist for an underground parking lot with a capacity of 3,500 vehicles along with exclusive parking for players. Restaurants services will also be installed. The whole project will be designed and visualized within 3D space with the HoloLens allowing for the changes to be viewed as the project progresses.
The project, named 'Espai Barça', will result in construction of a state-of-the-art stadium and mixed reality technology will help the designers keep the project on track, constantly improving the work flow.
