Τhe landslide is moving at a rate of about 1 meter per day since February 12, tearing apart the village of Ponzano, in the Abruzzo region of central Italy.
The landslide was caused due to the combined effect of the series of earthquakes that have recently hit the region and heavy snowfall during January. Up until now, more than 100 people and about 35 homes have been evacuated, as the hill is being slowly sliced in half.
Italy's Civil Protection Department and the National Research Council have set up monitors to track the landslide movement, but even if it' s moving at a slow rate, nothing can be done to stop it, according to experts from the National Research Council.
