A water main pipeline burst in the city of Guwahati, in the state of Assam, India, on May 25.
The pipeline appears to have been operating under heavy high pressure, as the water can be seen on video to have created a massive gush.
Serious damage was caused by the event. Reportedly, about approximately forty houses and numerous vehicles were destroyed, while one woman, named Sumitra Das Rabha, lost her life in the event, after a wall collapsed. In addition to this, over thirty people were injured in the incident.
The authorities tapped off reach the affected area, while the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) directed the Kamrup Metro District Magistrate to submit a report regarding any possible liabilities. Finally, the Assam government has formed a committee to further investigate the event.
A relief camp was set up, and about 75 people, whose houses were affected, were accommodated.
